I decided to write a book about a dog born in a puppy mill because I really care about dogs.
I have a dog named Winkie who was rescued from a puppy mill. We got him from a puppy rescue in Middletown called Little Forgotten Friends Rescue. (That’s him in the pic, along with Petie!) Winkie has only one eye, (Winkie, one eye, get it??) and he had an undescended testicle, but he was still kept at the puppy mill to be used as a breeder stock dog. They wanted to use him as a Daddy to the other puppies that they would sell to pet stores. Pekingese dogs have problems with their eyes a lot, and boy dogs with those problems with their testicles can pass it on to their puppies. Winkie should have never, ever been a Daddy. He should have been neutered right away. Puppy Mill owners do not care about their Mommy and Daddy dogs, or the puppies. They just care about the money they can make from selling the puppies, if they are healthy or not. Our dog Sophie was lost in New York City and I’m guessing she went through some of the things that Lilly went through. No dog should go through that.
