She does not hesitate to take on the dogs, or the cats- she loves to play,and to EAT.  She purrs, a lot,and likes to be pet.  Not sure about naps- I have yet to see her sleep.

Levina is going to make someone the most perfect kitten. She’s getting lots of love and socialization with us, to prepare for her forever home.

We had a call to come and take care of this wee kitten that was abandoned at our local auto parts store.  We took him in, but it was clear he wasn’t going to last long.   We held him and loved him. We named him Levine, because everyone should have a name.

Something very cool happened  a few days after Levine.  His sister, Levina, was found, and we are now fostering her. She’s a little bit ill, but we’re hopeful she’ll pull through.

We took the kittens to the vet today for their first sets of shot.  It was very bittersweet for us. We knew that we’d confirm that yes, they are adorable and the sweetest things ever and super healthy and well socialized and well, perfect, but we also knew  that it meant the beginning of the end of their time with us.  And even though we knew this was going to happen, and no matter how excited we are that they are going to their forever homes,  we’re a wee bit sad, too. We’ll miss their crazy antics, the purrs and love and even the responsibility that the kids took on. For when we foster, it’s a whole family affair and along with the adults, both Ally and Aedan take care of feeding and  cleaning litter pans, as well as socializing and loving.

I know that  some of the kittens have  been spoken for already.   A few are still available If you have have the time, room, and love for a kitten, please go to the Animal Welfare Society’s page and  fill out an adoption form. 

Please don’t forget Mena, their Mama.  She’s a sweetheart of a loving girl who gave birth in the most terrifying of conditions, and yet, was an amazing mother. She’s been battling an eye ulceration and infection so will stay with us for a week of two more to recuperate in our home rather than the shelter, but will soon need a loving home. This cat knows what it is to be loved. She needs to be saved.

On September 10, the shelter is having it’s annual Dog Days of Summer fundraiser.  This is one of the biggest fundraisers for AWS.  I usually attend and offer Lilly’s Story, with donations to AWS.  I’ll be there again this year.

• BUT,  I was thinking that it would be amazing to get one of my favorite people to come, too- Rachael Ray!   I love Rachael Ray for lots of reasons:
• She LOVES animals and works hard to help them.
• She likes to help kids who are trying to make a difference, (Like me and  my goal to raise awareness of the evils of puppy mills!)
• I like the recipes she comes up with.
• She has an awesome smile
• She she seems like a really nice person.

Then I came up with the idea that if Rachael Ray would come to our Dog Days of Summer Event,  it would totally boost our attendance, and we could hopefully raise more money for our shelter.  But HOW could I get the attention of Rachael Ray?  I’m just a kid.  Then I had an idea….

This is his Eulogy. Aedan, age 9, wrote it today.

Peanut died today. He lived for One week, two days, and some hours.  Peanut was not even as big as my fist.  But he filled up my heart. I loved him very much, and I’m sad that the passed away . Even though  I’m sad, I’m know he’s in a better place now.  I’m glad that he got to come and live with us  here instead of dying at the animal shelter.   It’s bad enough that  he had to be born there because his owner gave up Mena when she was having babies.  I wish people would take treat their pets better so they won’t have to go through the pain of having babies that aren’t wanted. I’m glad that Animal Welfare let us foster him so that he got to know love. I hope he has a better life in Heaven than he did on earth. Gob Bless Peanut.  Amen.

How sad and heartfelt is that prayer to a poor little kitten?  My boy is sobbing- learning one of the hardest lessons of fostering. They don’t all live.

Mena was once loved. Someone once  petted her, told her she was a good kitty,  scratched that special spot under her chin.   Even though she is totally stressed out, and scared to death, she rubs your hand to show you where  she wants to be scratched.   She knows love, both having received it, and how to give it.

Mena gave birth to six precious kittens. Sadly, she gave birth in a cage at the animal shelter, scared to death, with no real sense of security around her.   She was well taken care of by the staff at the New Milford Animal Welfare Society. They are a wonderful shelter in our hometown for which we have fostered before.   She had her kittens in a busy room that was full of other dogs and cats that need homes, with no where to hide.

She should have never had a litter of kittens. She should have been spayed.

We knew the shelter was going to get in a pregnant cat, and when asked, we agreed to foster both her and her kittens until they are all ready to be adopted. Aedan was very excited from the beginning. He was hoping to see the Momma Cat “have birth” as he put it. I explained that the Momma cat would most likely have her babies at night, and if she could, she’d go and hide to have them. She had the kittens early in the morning at the shelter on Saturday- so he missed the birth. He was so excited to help me prepare the room for them. And he was wonderful with Mena- whispering encouragement to her in the car, telling her that she was ok, she was safe, her babies were right there beside her, that they were all going to be ok. Once we got home, he made sure their bed was made, fresh food and water and even litter was ready for Mena, then he took the babies out, one by one, murmured hello to them, and placed them carefully in the bed.

Look how tiny they are compared to Aedan’s little hand.They are about the  size of his index finger.

He carefully picked Mena up, and  placed her near the bed. She literally climbed into the bed, pulled her babies close to her and gave a little sigh.

Look at her: does she look scared, or do you think she looks like she can finally relax and get down to the business of raising 6 kittens?

In about 8 weeks, these babies will be ready for a new home.   So will Mena.  Do you have room in your life for a new furry friend?  In the meantime, come back here to ready about how they are doing!

This is Royal.   That is the name she came with from the shelter.  I, however, am calling her Mama Kitty.   She and her litter were shoved in a box, and  left on the porch of the Animal Welfare Society.  Since the shelter is OVERFULL , Our family is fostering this family for a few weeks until they are  adoptable.      She is such a good Mama and takes excellent care of her babies.  The kittens are about 4-5 weeks old.  They’re still nursing, however they are eating wet food, too.   I *think* that Mama Kitty is trying to wean them slowly.   Doesn’t she look like her expression in this photo is saying- “Yes, I AM weaning them, so that they are ready for YOU to come and take into your home and love!” They all have slight colds – nothing bad, in fact it’s nearly gone, but one of the kittens, I’ll call him Oreo, has it the worst, and he’s a bit snuffly. They are just finishing up antibiotics to take care of that.

Oreo is a teeny bit shy,but will nudge your hand for a pat and a snuggle.  He really loves to play- he’s been chasing around kitty balls and a wee mouse for a bit.  Isn’t he sweet?     He’s definitely fuzzy,and had great markings.  Most importantly, he is wanting someone to play with him!

Meet Dandi ( for dandelion puff- which is what he looks like- and dandy, for how he acts! )   He is the most confident of the three. He  is adorable,and he KNOWS it.  He is happy snuggled up in your arms, will chase a string,  bat at his siblings, bother his mother, eat up a storm, and generally  steal your heart.   He is super fuzzy, and I’ve noticed he keeps himself well groomed.  He really is a special kitten. No fear in him!

Now,the special one.  This is Gris- Yes, she is black, but, she has all kinds of little gray hairs poking thru (kinda like me!) Couldn’t call her Forty, now could we?  She is the most shy of the three, but with a bit of patience, she is becoming a lovebug.   She likes to hide, and  peek out at you, almost as if  to say “SURPRISE!! I’m here! Just take some time and win my trust, and I’ll reward you with some special purrs!!” She delighted me the other night with  popping up  in the mirror, hissing at herself, and generally scaring herself silly with her reflection. Darling kitten.  She, too, is a healthy eater.

All the kittens are adorable, but my favorite really  is Mama Kitty. She’s not much more than a kitten herself.  She has such class, such love, such HOPE in her eyes.   I can’t say enough about her, so I’ll just add more photos.

Please.  Please love me. give me a chance.  I promise I’ll be good,  and I’ll love you back.   Just take a chance on me!
