Lilly’s Story is about a dog that was born in a puppy mill. She was taken away to be sold at a pet store, then loved for a short while by a family that wasn’t ready for a puppy. They abandoned her, and she got lost, then put in a shelter. Lilly was placed in a rescue, where she was spayed, then finally, finally she found her forever home.
Lilly’s Story was written by 10 year old Ally Del Monte. Ally and her family have participated in all type of pet rescue, including senior, special needs adoptions and hospice care. Circumstances have made it so that the family cannot foster now, although they do have adopted dogs. Ally wanted to do more. The 6th grader want to find a way to help the Rescues that make such a difference in the lives of animals. While she was thinking of ways to raise money for her fund, her Mom suggested that she write a book, and publish it. Ally decided it was a great idea, and wrote a synopsis, an outline, and worked on a page at a time, both authoring and illustration this picture book about a Puppy Mill pup’s life.
Today Ally was feature on Better Connecticut – Channel 3. Scot Haney is a real animal lover- he goes above and beyond to help and showcase rescues in Connecticut.
You can see her segment here: Better Connecticut. She was also featured ina story in the News Times.
The profit from the sale of the book will benefit The New Milford Animal Welfare Society.

Congratulations on an excellent achievement! Your illustrations are beautiful, your cause is admirable and I can’t wait to read the book.
What you’ve accomplished, particularly for an 11 year old, is extraordinary. I plan to buy several books to donate to our local schools. I will ask the media center specialists (aka librarians) in each school to present the book to the students as a way of giving a voice to the puppies and furthering your cause by way of educating the students on puppy mills. I also want the librarians to show the students how they too can follow your example and write, illustrate, and publish a book for a good cause.
Kudos, Ally. Thanks for a great book and a good lesson, in more ways than one.
Keep it up, Girl! You got it goin’ on.
